All colors in the interior are usually divided into 3 groups:

  • Active colors
  • Passive colors
  • Neutral colors

All interior designers know that depending on the group, you should use colors in the interior in different ways, and you should know how to choose colors in the interior based on their perception.

Active colors

Active colors are all colors of a bright warm group (red, orange, yellow and their shades).

These colors are recommended for use in rooms where people meet, these are the colors of extroverts.
They inspire conversation and contact.
However, remember that active colors will tire the person quickly. Therefore, active colors are not used for bedrooms or resting places. It is better not to use active colors or use them in minimal quantities in children’s rooms (if you want the children to sleep well). The triad in the interior is also very important for a harmonious effect.

Where to use active colors: kitchen, living room, terrace

Passive colors

Passive colors represent a cold group. This is a blue-violet group, pink and all whitened (that is, whitewash is added to them) colors. For example, green, cyan, magenta.

These colors are soothing while staying in the background. They are ideal for bedrooms or private rooms. These colors can be used in living rooms with kitchens, but they can make the room a little boring. Therefore, in rooms where people meet, it is important to know how to choose colors for the interior of the house, you may mix passive colors with active altogether.

Also remember that if the room is cold (bedrooms are poorly heated), then they should be diluted with warm accents (red, yellow, orange).

Where to use passive colors: bedroom, break room, library, study

Neutral colors

Neutrals are colors that connect active and passive colors. These are functional colors.

Neutral colors include colorless colors such as white, gray, black, as well as beige and shades of brown. Neutral or achromatic colors in the interior are perfectly combined with active or passive ones.

They are often used for corridors and storage / dressing rooms.
