Is it true that fashion designers always wear bright fashionable clothes?

– Not true.
Most often, fashion designers of all around the world prefer to dress in classic style and monochrome colors.
Classic style means calm, not too extraordinary clothing, but in modern fashionable proportions.
Turtleneck, jeans, classic trousers, shirt dress, cardigan, simple classic shirt.
And everything is in white-gray-beige-black colors.
Simple, minimalistic and discreet.
The designer brings everything bright to his own collections.

Is it true that designers have to come up with ideas for their collections for several months or even years?

– Not true.
All the best ideas usually come up quickly. This has already been proven in practice.
Awesome designs are usually quite simple to implement.

It’s all about the idea and concept, not the time spent on its fulfillment.

Is it true that the life of a fashion designer is a constant creation?

– True.
Moreover, such creative ideas sometimes can even interfere with your life.
It often happens that you think for days about a collection or some dress, which is not perfect yet, but you want to do exactly as you intended.
And here all ready-made outfits, colors, schemes, etc. are filling up your imagination.
This can be very distracting from life and makes it difficult to concentrate on everyday tasks like cooking dinner and playing with children.

Is it true that a fashion designer should be an artist?

– Not true. A designer doesn’t need to be good at drawing. It is important for him to convey his idea to those who will create his collection and express his ideas.
A sketch is needed to fix the image from the head, but this can be done not only with the help of a drawing, but also, for example, with the help of a collage or similar structures.
Although, drawing is certainly a great skill, and if you know it, it will be easier to get a job.

Is it true that a fashion designer has to sew well?

– Not true. A designer doesn’t need to know how to sew.
People often think that the designer sews his own collections.
Otherwise, who is this designer?
Yes, it happens, but this is more an option for this profession.

A designer is not a seamstress. He does not have professional equipment, knot processing skills and knowledge of sewing technology. For this, there are other professionals – tailors and designers who create templates for clothes.

Is it true that a fashion designer needs to have celebrity connections in order to sell their items?

– Not true.
Some people think that the success of a designer and his clothes will come when he befriends celebrities. He will give them his clothes, and celebrities will advertise the designer.
Yes, this happens, but it is not necessary, I’d rather say it is even rare.
To promote your fashion line, it’s more important to find niche bloggers who are closer and more understandable to most buyers.
They don’t have the same amount of ads as well-known giant bloggers.
This means that their word is trusted more than the word of a celebrity whose life has very little in common with yours.

Is it true that the most important thing for a fashion designer is impeccable taste?

– Not true.
Any designer constantly needs to develop their fashion observance.
This is the most important skill for the modern designer.

What does it mean to develop observance?

You open the shows of the current fashion weeks, look through all the collections, try to understand fashion trends.
Think what the creator wanted to say with his collection.
Look at the collection twice, and on the third time start analyzing: for example, you see a lot of white, stripes or small floral print, earrings of different sizes, a scarf is tied specifically, etc.
And so on for each designer.
