Which Bangs Suit You Best: Advice from Italian Stylists

Your hairstyle is an essential part of every look you create. How well-chosen and appropriate your hairstyle is for your face shape accounts for half of your success—and half of your overall appearance.

When it comes to hairstyles, it’s not just about the cut or the hair color—your choice of bangs matters greatly too. Rather than following current trends alone, you should select bangs based primarily on your face shape. After all, bangs can either accentuate your flaws or cleverly conceal them while highlighting your best features.

Below, we share recommendations from Italian stylists on which bangs will suit you best.

Square Face

If you have a square face with angular cheekbones and a square jawline, opt for long bangs that fall below your eyebrows. The sides of your bangs should be longer than the front. It’s best to keep the side sections fuller, while lightly thinning out the center to lighten the front visually and give your face a softer, more romantic appearance.

Avoid hairstyles without bangs, as exposing your forehead will emphasize your face’s geometric shape and sharp angles.

Round Face

If you have a round face—especially one that appears somewhat full—a standard blunt bang likely won’t suit you. A thick, straight fringe can make your face look even wider than it actually is. Instead, choose asymmetrical, textured, or jagged bangs that break up the horizontal line across your forehead. This adds dynamism to your face and creates a more slenderizing effect.

Another excellent option is a long side-swept bang. Here, we’re not talking about a straight fringe ending at the brows that’s simply swept to the side; rather, the hair should be styled with a deep side part for a more flattering look.

Heart-Shaped Face

If your face is heart-shaped—meaning your forehead is wider and your chin is narrow and pointed—a side-swept bang works wonderfully to balance your features. Go for a multi-layered fringe: the shortest part should reach the top of your eyebrow, while the longest section extends to the outer corner of your eye. This creates a dynamic visual flow that draws the eye downward, softening the pointed chin.

Oval Face

If you’re lucky enough to have a perfectly oval face with no prominent flaws, virtually any bang style will suit you. However, choose a style that emphasizes your face’s natural beauty. A slightly textured, straight fringe that falls just below the eyebrows—with the sides slightly longer than the center—will beautifully highlight your best features.

High Forehead

If you have a high forehead, try this bang style: eliminate the part entirely, creating bangs that start right at the crown. Make them graduated—dense and straight in the front to cover the forehead, with the sides gradually lengthening down toward the temples. This approach keeps your face open and defined while the fuller front section effectively conceals a high forehead
