Let’s talk about history of Barbie!
The famous doll was created by Ruth Handler. In the late 1950s, American Ruth Handler noticed that her daughter Barbara was bored playing with baby dolls. Ruth had the idea to make an “adult” toy – a girl who can change outfits and hairstyles. She called the doll by her daughter’s name.
A role model for girls
The true purpose of the Barbie toy was to become a role model for young girls. The Barbie lifestyle trend appeared in the 2000s. At that time the glamour trend was popular too — everyone wanted to dye their hair blonde, have a perfect figure, and wear pink. Each girl dreamt of being like her favorite doll in the childhood.
Who made the “doll” style popular?
It had a certain impact on fashion. The one of the first who broadcast the “doll” style to the world was Paris Hilton, the famous heiress of the American hotel chain Hilton Hotels. In the 2000s, she often wore all things hot pink, and even her car was pink. Paris Hilton created a glamorous image of a girl who loves shopping.
Barbie and fashion
The world of Barbie has always been connected with the world of fashion. Mattel, which has been producing the doll since 1959, has collaborated with a huge number of designers. Over its 60-year history, clothes for Barbie and Ken have been designed by classic costume couturier George Armani and avant-garde artists like Gareth Pugh.
Bring the trend back
Valentino rethought the trends of the 2000s and brought the favorite color palette of Paris Hilton back into fashion in 2022. At the autumn show, Pierpaolo Piccioli chose fuchsia, in which he dressed not only the models, but the entire hall, including the podium and decor. Designers such as Blumarine, Naeem Khan and Oscar de la Renta became to use pink in their designs too, but it’s almost impossible to reach Valentino’s success.
#Barbiecore
And ever since the first footage from the soon-to-be-released movie Barbie by Greta Gerwig’s, where Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling play as Barbie and Kan, has been revealed, there’s been an explosion of #Barbiecore.
More pink
Barbiecore is essentially the epitome of Barbie style: hot pink, bright neon, feminine makeup and glittery accessories. The main element, of course, is pink. It affects not only clothes, shoes and accessories, but also the beauty image including make-up, manicure and hair (yes, there is even Barbie coloring).
Celebrities and Barbiecore
Today Barbiecore is not considered a style for little girls. On the contrary, among his fans there are a large number of popular bloggers, artists and influencers, such as Kim Kardashian, Bella Hadid, Ariana Grande and many others. What is more, tiktoker Bruna Barbi gained a large audience by broadcasting her life online, almost completely reminiscent of the life of a real Barbie from the cartoon.
Pink is the new black
Now it is the perfect time to hit the trend Barbiecore. Pink is almost the new black, off-season, cheerful, from luxury boutiques to the mass market.
Wear pink and be trendy!
